If you are coming from the United States, you come through Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where you cross the border into Canada. From there is it about a 3-4 hour drive. We suggest you take Highway 17 North from Sault Ste. Marie Canada, to Wawa and then Highway 101 East to Chapleau. This route takes you along Lake Superior and through some truly gorgeous country with breath taking views of the lake. Highway 556 North of Sault Ste. Marie is not the route of choice. The road is rough and not the best to drive. If you are coming through Southern Ontario, you will be traveling on Highway 17 West from Sudbury, Ontario until you reach Thessalon, then North on Highway 129 until you reach Chapleau about 2 hours later. As you can see from the map below, you may also take Highway 554 North at Iron Bridge, then get on to Highway 129 North later. Highway 129 North runs for part of the journey along the Mississagi River and a prettier area is hard to find. Half the fun is getting here! |
