Mona Sims, Owner of SimAlTech in Sudbury. Sims knows that being in
business in one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy means
maintaining a competitive edge through quality customer service and
leading-edge products and services.
SimAlTech, a Web
development company, formed in 1997, offers Web design services, project
management, corporate training and consulting, as well as sales, marketing
and public relations services. The business initially began as a computer
hardware supplier, but the Web site design component was quickly added to
SimAlTech's list of services and products.
On the corporate front, Sims has designed and hosted Web site's for many
companies and is highly regarded as a professional in her field. Companies
that have used SimAlTech`s services boast that they have increased their
out-of-town inquiries and orders.
Today, Sims' clients span across Northern Ontario and abroad, in such
places as Australia, Saudi Arabia and in the United States. “Web design is
a highly competitive industry to be in,” she says. As well, she says,
there are still some stereotypical attitudes to overcome.
"The computer industry is a man's world still, unfortunately, but not as
much as when I started."
SimAlTech has created and hosts numerous Web sites, mainly in Sudbury and
Timmins, and employs five people.
Sims admits that operating the business comes with its share of
challenges, but still maintains she is passionate about it.
Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards are presented annually to
women who have contributed to economic wealth, growth and job creation in
Ontario’s northern region, to women who have initiated change within their
communities and to women who have made a positive difference.
The Influential Women of Northern Ontario program consists of an annual
awards ceremony to honour Influential Women in a public venue, a special
publication to profile the success stories of the IW winners, a unique
interactive Web site www.influentialwomen.ca and a monthly e-newsletter.
